Lexington Regional Health Center CNO Selected for the Rural Health Fellows Program

LEXINGTON, NE - Lexington Regional Health Center's CNO, Nicole Thorell, was selected for the National Rural Health Association's (NRHA) Rural Health Fellows (RHF) Program of 2018. This year long in-depth program works with rural leaders to develop evident visions for rural America. Thorell is happy to be following her passion. "I feel very honored to have been chosen as an NRHA Fellow. I feel blessed to be able to advocate for rural healthcare, which is a strong passion of mine. I look forward to continuing to learn and grow through my fellowship."

The National Rural Health Association is a nonprofit organization focused on providing adequate health care in rural communities. Many quality applications were sent from all over the country, applying to be a part of the Rural Health Fellows Program. Members were chosen based off their overall purpose for applying, educational background and capacity for understanding rural health care issues. 17 members were selected for the RHF. Members are required to attend an Annual Conference May 8-11, 2018 in New Orleans, LA. They will then graduate the program February 4th, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

Thorell is learning what it means to advocate for rural healthcare on a higher level. "The NRHA fellowship will provide me an opportunity to strengthen my knowledge in regards to policy and how to appropriately advocate to our governmental officials. It is extremely important to continue to advocate for rural care because it provides many benefits to the people served," Thorell said. "Access to healthcare is an issue for our country, and we need to ensure that future policy does not inhibit the ability for rural organizations to continue to provide high quality, cost-effective care close to home."
