OUR HISTORY

Lexington Regional Health Center opened as Tri-County Hospital in September of 1976. The hospital began with seven patients, 40 beds, five physicians, one PA, a board-certified surgeon, and visiting specialists.

The organization grew through the 1980s and added additional services including radiology, therapy, rehabilitation, and hospice. A 4,300 square-foot expansion in 1989 relocated six physical therapy rooms, added a meeting room, and included an area for wellness programs for the community. The addition of Home Health Care services, which encompasses a 45-mile radius of Lexington, Nebraska, was completed in 1994. Another expansion in 1996 provided more room for the physical therapy department with the opening of the Community Health & Fitness Center. In 2005, Tri-County Hospital was designated as a Critical Access Facility by the State of Nebraska.

The year 2011 marks the transition from Tri-County Hospital to Lexington Regional Health Center. In the first 35 years of operation the facility has expanded to offer a wide range of services and additional staff and specialists. Over the years, the rehabilitation department, outpatient services, and the radiology department, among other departments, have increased their services to better serve the needs of our community. The opening of Urgent Care in the fall of 2011 has further expanded the services offered.

As Lexington and the surrounding communities continued to grow, so did the need for additional healthcare services and providers. Lexington Regional's Family Medicine Specialists started seeing patients in their new clinic in July of 2014. FMS provides healthcare services for general family medicine patients, sports medicine, prenatal care, weight management, physicals and disease management.

On April 17, 2014, groundbreaking for the Outpatient Service Center addition and hospital renovations began. In May 2016, the Outpatient Service Center had its Grand Opening. The new center features 16 exam rooms, 3 new operating rooms, 2 endoscopy procedure rooms and 9 pre and post-operation recovery rooms.

Additional renovations to the hospital concluded in October 2016. The renovations featured privatized patient rooms, a redesigned main entrance, updated mechanical and electrical systems, and a redesigned kitchen and dining room.

Lexington Regional Health Center also celebrated 40 years of service in rural Nebraska. We are proud to provide exceptional healthcare in rural Nebraska, and look forward to continuing to provide exceptional healthcare in the years to come.
