LRHC Celebrates Completion of Labor & Delivery Renovation Project
Lexington Regional Health Center recently celebrated the completion of its newly renovated Labor & Delivery rooms with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the culmination of a year-long project designed to enhance the birth experience for mothers, babies, and families across the region.
The renovation represents LRHC's continued commitment to providing comprehensive, compassionate women's healthcare close to home. Because Labor & Delivery services remained fully operational throughout construction, the project was completed one room at a time to ensure uninterrupted care for expectant mothers and newborns. The renovations included updated patient rooms featuring expanded family space, labor and delivery beds, sleeper sofas, rocking chairs for mothers, family seating that converts to beds, refrigerators for breast milk storage, enhanced lighting, new televisions, and calming design elements focused on comfort and healing.
In addition to the room updates, LRHC invested in advanced technology and equipment, including wireless fetal monitoring systems, new fetal monitoring machines, infant warmers, and upgraded newborn care equipment. These enhancements provide greater flexibility during labor while supporting high-quality care for both mothers and babies.
"At Lexington Regional Health Center, we're proud to offer a complete continuum of women's health services right here in our community," said Dr. Kyle Klammer, Director of Obstetrics of Lexington Regional Health Center. "These renovated rooms are more than a construction project. They reflect our commitment to providing exceptional care, modern technology, and a welcoming environment for families during one of life's most important moments."
The renovations complement LRHC's already comprehensive women's health services, including prenatal and postpartum care, highly trained family medicine physicians who provide obstetrical care, experienced Labor & Delivery nurses, certified lactation consultants, pelvic floor therapy services, partnership with local OB/GYN specialist Dr. Adam, and behavioral health resources that support maternal mental health.
"While these beautiful renovations enhance the experience for our patients and families, the greatest investment we've made is in our people," said Emily Tvrdy, Nursing Director of Obstetrics. "Over the past five years, we've significantly expanded education and training opportunities for our Labor & Delivery team to ensure we are providing the safest, most evidence-based care possible. New OB nurses complete a minimum of six specialty courses focused on obstetrical and newborn care, and many pursue additional advanced training beyond those requirements. Through ongoing education, simulation training, quality improvement initiatives, and collaborative learning, our team remains committed to delivering the highest level of care for every mother and baby who entrusts us with their journey."
LRHC's Women's Health team continues to be recognized for its commitment to quality and safety. The hospital has earned Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Hospital Champion recognition for Safe Sleep, Breastfeeding, and Abusive Head Trauma Prevention initiatives. The organization also actively participates in improvement efforts through the Nebraska Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative, working alongside hospitals across the state to advance maternal and infant health outcomes.
Beyond the physical enhancements, Lexington Regional Health Center continues to invest in programs that support mothers long after delivery. The Women's Health team recently implemented a Postpartum Alert Initiative, ensuring enhanced communication and follow-up support for new mothers. Emergency Department and obstetrical & family medicine nurses have completed specialized training and work collaboratively to identify postpartum concerns, provide timely education, and connect patients with needed resources. The initiative reinforces LRHC's commitment to caring for women beyond childbirth and reflects the organization's focus on improving maternal health outcomes throughout the postpartum journey.
While the renovated rooms provide beautiful new spaces, hospital leaders emphasize that the true strength of the program lies in the people caring for patients every day.
"From our physicians and nurses to our lactation consultants, therapists, behavioral health team, and support staff, we have built a program centered around supporting women and families at every stage," said Jason Douglas, CEO. "The renovated rooms are the cherry on top of an already exceptional team and service line."
