Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory Therapists evaluate and care for people with breathing problems and cardiopulmonary ailments by means of treatments, diagnostics, and education. At Lexington Regional Health Center, our Respiratory Therapy services are utilized for inpatients ranging from premature babies whose lungs are underdeveloped, to elderly people whose lungs may have become diseased.

Patients who may require respiratory care include those who have been diagnosed with emphysema, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or sleep apnea. Mechanical ventilator support is provided to patients experiencing respiratory failure.

In addition to critical care and maintenance therapies, our respiratory therapists also provide:

Respiratory therapists perform complete inpatient and outpatient pulmonary function testing and cardiac stress testing.

Under the guidance of an ordering physician, respiratory therapists monitor patient activity and education regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and management of chronic lung disease. This helps determine a patient’s capabilities and can even help patients graduate from the use of supplemental oxygen.

Sleep studies often result in a healthier life by identifying sleep apnea among other disorders that can deprive your internal organs of oxygen.
